Assistant Operations Manager
Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager and working closely with our Operations, Sales and Finance teams, you will play a key role in ensuring smooth daily shipping operations by maintaining compliance, managing documentation and meeting customer requirements. This role also involves overseeing supplier evaluations, inspections and record-keeping, as well as managing shipping issues, damages and lost freight claims. You’ll also be responsible for maintaining safety, monitoring customer-supplied property and ensuring cargo, tank cleaning and stability compliance, all while upholding the highest safety standards and delivering service excellence.
- Ensure shipping protocols and documentation meet requirements.
- Review customer requirements and correspondence.
- Investigate and resolve shipping quality issues, damages or lost freight claims.
- Maintain safety standards and procedures.
- Ensure supplier evaluations are carried out according to standard procedures.
- Ensure purchased products and services are inspected.
- Safeguard records related to inspections.
- Ensure the control and monitoring of customer-supplied property.
- Ensure cargo requirements, tank cleaning and stability are met.
- Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction, resolving complaints promptly and adhering to procedures.
- Strong understanding of shipping operations, documentation and compliance requirements.
- Experience in supplier evaluations, quality inspections and record-keeping.
- Problem-solving skills to manage shipping issues, including damages and lost freight claims.
- Knowledge of safety standards, cargo requirements and tank cleaning procedures.
- Ability to effectively monitor and manage customer-supplied property.
- Excellent communication skills to ensure customer satisfaction and resolve concerns promptly.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to enforce operational procedures efficiently.
- A keen eye for detail and a proactive attitude to keep operations on track.
- Strong communication skills for liaising with various stakeholders.
- A willingness to learn and grow within the shipping industry.
- A team-oriented approach to supporting different departments and operations.
- A graduate with a degree or recognised shipping qualifications applicable to the role.
- At least 5 years of experience in a similar role.
- Experience in the shipping and logistics industry is a must.
